In today’s Q&A, we sit down with Ethan Hauser in his writing room–not an office, not a desk in a bedroom, but a writing room–where he is currently at work on a new novel, writing in a purposefully stiff chair. When Ethan started The Measures Between Us, he decided to write a cast of characters instead of focusing on one protagonist. “I had this reaction like: I’m just sick of hearing about this guy,” Ethan says, and so he began weaving connections between people living outside of Boston (in towns similar to the one where he grew up), some of whom didn’t know each other. “I wanted to dramatize and explore emotions that weren’t always at home in the same person,” Ethan says. And speaking of disparate personalities, we also asked Ethan to compare the US and UK book art–it seems the same book can be at home in very different covers.
