Goddamn—how can we resist?
That’s the first line, verbatim, of our response to FSG’s “Film David Grand?” email. As a mere “Yes” would have slighted our excitement, so categorizing David’s new book, Mount Terminus, as a novel seems an underestimation. Mount Terminus is epic. Is an epic. Its scope and depth testify to the eleven years David devoted to perfecting every last sentence.
Refreshingly, David had not perfected rote Mount Terminus talking points when HENRY interviewed him in the den of his Park Slope walkup. Witnessing a perfectionist artist grapple to articulate thoughts about the world he built on the page, and that he privately inhabited day-in, day-out, for a decade, is a privilege. Hopefully this video captures a vestige of the power of that experience.
Snow flurries began as David’s Q&A wrapped. While we packed our gear Christine, David’s wife, brewed coffee, spread homemade brunch across the kitchen counter, and invited us to help ourselves. Goddamn—how could we resist?
